One of the easiest way to plan a backup electrical power system is to match your grid-tied Main Breaker Panel amperage rating that is ATS automatically transferred to the backup electrical power source. By matching the main breaker amperage rating it is business as usual when the grid goes down and offline the ATS isolates itself from the grid wires so that no back-feed is possible but also monitors the grid wires for voltage so that when power is restored it goes back to grid power thru the ATS or other switching alternative energy options.
